Ground burial has for decades been the most common method of disposition, and we are proud to offer burials with flat bronze or granite markers or areas that allow for upright headstones.

At every stage of design and development, care has been taken to preserve the area's beautiful natural surroundings. Here you'll find spacious paved drives that wind their way through hills adorned with flowering dogwood trees and landscaped areas designed to complement our natural beauty.

We have one of the most beautiful cremation gardens - the "Peace, Faith, Hope, Grace, and the Greatest of These Is Love" Garden. Our niches will house a single urn or two urns side by side. This garden is in a wooded area and is a peaceful area for quiet reflection.

Our Sylvan Abbey Mausoleum includes a beautiful chapel, original stained glass window and fireplace seating areas surrounded by glass front niches for cremated remains. While our mausoleum houses mostly single crypts, we do have couch crypts available.

At Forest Lawn East, we are always looking to the future and growing trends. Consumers are increasingly concerned about environmental issues such as the need to conserve energy, preserve natural resources, and to use biodegradable products in homes and businesses. Therefore, we researched and developed one of the first Green Burial sections in North Carolina and it is a part of Forest Lawn East Cemetery. A green burial site does not permit vaults, non-biodegradable caskets or embalming chemicals.

What is a natural or green burial?

In a “purist” natural or green burial, the body is buried without embalming, in a natural setting. Any shroud or casket that is used must be biodegradable, nontoxic, and contain no sustainable material. With this type of burial, traditional standing headstones are not permitted. Instead, flat rocks, plants or trees may serve as grave markers. We have “stones” from our own property that can have your loved one's name, date of birth and date of passing sandblasted on.
